Uninvited Animals in the Attic of Your Charlotte Area Home

September 17, 2014 By Jesse Branes

There’s a myth that I’ve heard in and around Charlotte NC that bats may fly down and tangle themselves in a woman’s long hair. Creepy yes, but luckily not true. However, with any uninvited animals in the attic of your Charlotte area home there are some real dangers in posed, and especially by the world’s only flying mammals.

Let’s consider pros and cons about these so called “flying mice”. Pros include their voracious appetite for mosquito and other insects. Plus, they add a sinister touch to Halloween celebrations. uninvited animals in the attic of your Charlotte area home

As for the cons. Many are infected with rabies. If they bite, scratch or transfer their saliva to a person, the rabies can be fatal. For that reason, most people are inoculated against the disease.

Another danger occurs when guano, the name used for bat droppings, collects in close proximity to humans. There is an airborne disease that can be transmitted by the bats living in your house.

This disease, histoplasmosis, may infect the lungs and immune systems of you and your family. Less dangerous, but totally undesirable, are the bat insects they may carry and deposit in your attic. These bugs can crawl to other areas of the house.

When you notice one bat, it’s like seeing one roach. When you see one, dozens may go unseen. It is imperative to your health and peace of mind that you get them out – and get them out fast.

Removal is close to impossible without professional help. They will trap the bats and release them in a different area. It’s against the law to kill them. A professional bat removal service will know when this can be done. There is a time when the pups, as the young are called, are unable to fly. It cannot be done at that time.

Doing so would be cruel as it would leave the pups to die of starvation. In addition to being cruel, their decomposing bodies would add to the odors left in your attic. Breeding is seasonal in Charlotte and the experts at Animal Solutions, Inc. know when removal can be done.

They will follow up by cleaning and disinfecting the area. Perhaps most importantly, they will seal up any small openings bats might use to sneak back in. A new colony of bats will NOT take up residence in the attic of your home.
